Gaelic for Mums/Gaelic4mothers

A couple of years ago a new team was formed and who would of believed just what they would bring to our already growing club! It started when a few girls went to the All-Ireland ladies final in Croke Park and got talking to a few other mums who had already started a Gaelic for Mums team! The idea was brilliant and to this day is still running strong! They are a group of "mostly mums" who come together and play football and have good craic! Many a new friendship has been formed through this venture, friendships that will last for years to come! They compete against other mums teams from all over and although its about having fun and not keeping the score our mummies always seem to know if they win or loose! Their most memorbale to date was probably the trip to Dublin for the All-Ireland mummies blitz October 2010 where they took on teams from Belfast, Killkenny and futher afield! Come the end of the day they now were known as All Ireland Champions as they had went undefeated throughout the whole day and this was a great achievement to say the least! They went out to the GAA club that night and there was another competition in the form of singing and wanting to keep their winning streak going, up stepped Ciarraí Bonnes and being where she was (in Dublin) she sang "The Rare Aul Times!" Well this got the Tir na nÓg crowd going not to mention the Dublin Folk and low and behold she won! A great time was had by all!

This year Jimmy Porter took over the reins from Odhran McNeilly and he had big shoes to fill as the mummies had christened him "Our Odhran" but he stepped up and was a hit with them if only for his humour and his ability to get them to do press ups! Sadly Jimmy passed away in July 2011 and the mummies all miss and pray for him! Brian Martin, who was there to help Jimmy has now taken over in Jimmys absence and the girls are all grateful! They are now in preparations to defend their Title at this years All-Ireland Blitz in October. There is alot of new mummies this year and if you are interested in joining them just get in contact with any committe member and they can put you in touch! Since the mummies have came about the Whitehill they have brought a new sense of Loyality, Belief, Friendship and most of all Support for anyone who needs it! If you need anything you just have to say to the mums and they will be there with a helping hand and a smiling face and for that the club is grateful beyond belief! A great asset to Tir na nÓg without a doubt! We are privilaged they are a part of us!!
